Introducing the World’s First Transparent Hearing Instrument
The new ReSound Metrix digital hearing instruments work so subtly and fit so comfortably, all you’ll notice is how much better you hear.
Now you can have clear, natural sound, improved speech clarity and reduced background noise in any environment – all without distortion or sudden changes in volume. Benefits of ReSound Metrix:
SPEECH CLARITY – Participate with ease – even in noisy environments. At Grand Haven Ear & Hearing, we know just how difficult it can be to hear everything being said – especially in groups. Metrix works to solve such problems by automatically focusing its hearing capabilities whenever someone speaks in front of you. In fact, its special ‘narrow-beam’ focus helps to highlight more of the conversation than any other hearing instrument technology available today. So you get increased speech clarity in all environments – without having to change programs. And, unlike other hearing instruments, there’s no sudden change, no feedback and no reduction in amplification as Metrix switches to focus on the voices you want to hear…Metrix automatically and smoothly focuses on speech…the voices of people speaking behind you will fade into the background…even fast moving noise sources are tracked and suppressed.
FITTING ACCURACY – Metrix comes equipped with a built in electronic database that monitors your exact hearing needs. No two hearing losses are exactly the same. That’s why, when you’re investing in a high end digital hearing instrument, you should expect it to know precisely what assistance you need and when. From the moment you put it on, Metrix automatically starts learning about your listening situations and challenges. It remembers all the details for you, helping us to achieve an even more accurate solution for your particular needs. This information is presented for analysis on our computer at your next visit, helping to create the perfect solution for your hearing lifestyle…Metrix will: Memorize, Analyze and Optimize your hearing.
SOUND QUALITY – Sound quality that’s second to none. A digital hearing instrument can be compared to a tiny, yet highly sophisticated sound studio, processing and reproducing sounds as faithfully as possible. Metrix is the most technically advanced of these instruments. It is carefully designed to remove distortion and other side effects of digital processing that are often all too obvious in other hearing instruments.
At the same time, Metrix precisely cuts away noise to highlight important sounds such as speech. And it shields your ears from annoying or even painful noises such as traffic, the hum of an air conditioner or the slamming of a door. Metrix is also the first digital hearing instrument to effectively recognize and suppress background noise in challenging environments such as a crowded restaurant…When your family and friends speak, their voices won’t sound artificial or distorted…children’s voices are kept at a comfortable level…constantly noisy surroundings won’t wear you down.
Open Comfort –If you’ve worn hearing instruments before, your ears may have felt as though they were constantly plugged up. You might have thought that some sounds, such as your own voice or chewing food, were strange and uncomfortable. Most likely, you’ve been experiencing ‘occlusion’, a problem that arises when air becomes trapped in the ear canal. Metrix solves such problems, providing a far more comfortable wearing experience without compromising your ability to hear. You’ll find it easier to adjust to wearing your hearing instrument…You won’t have to stop eating to hear the conversation…Your own voice will sound as natural as it should…There’s no ‘plugged-up’ feeling…No whistling when you give someone a hug.

HEARING LOOP SYSTEMS IN THE HOME

By
Dick McKinley
System Designer

Premovation Audio of Holland, Michigan has had a very rare opportunity. This past year Dr. David Myers, of Hope College, launched an initiative to make the greater Holland-Zeeland Area the first “looped” community in the United States. His goal is to have hearing loop systems installed in over 80% of the public facilities by 2003. This will open up a whole new world of clear sound to those people with hearing aids equipped with T-coils. A T-coil equipped hearing aid receives sound directly from the induction loops, which Premovation installs. A person hears without all of the surrounding clutter and other confusing sounds. Dr. Myers calls it “personalized in the ear sound.”

When the T–coil mode on the hearing aid is selected, the hearing aid’s microphones turn off and the person hears only the sound that is being sent directly to their ears. Trying to sort out confusing sounds is no longer a problem. There is no need for special devices, external boxes or the removal of hearing aids. The sound is clear, direct and equalized in each ear.

The heart-felt expressions that follow are comments we at Premovation have received after installing hearing loop systems.

In one church recently, when a woman started hearing clear sound like she hadn’t in years, she began crying tears of joy. She woke up again in the middle of the night and cried some more.

“I haven’t heard a piano clearly in 15 years”

“Church hasn’t been that much fun in years.”

“My wife won’t turn it off when she is home, I haven’t seen her smile like that in years.”

Premovation has installed loops in over 40 churches and public facilities as well as over a dozen homes. Installing a hearing loop in a home usually costs somewhere between $800 and $1600. When we hook up a TV to the loop, the individuals with t-coils have their own personal volume while the rest of the listeners can adjust the sound to their desired level. Often we put in extra microphones so a grandchild or spouse can carry on a completely understood conversation. In the near future we will be able to interface a phone into the loop and soon we will be looping a dining room table at a retirement facility. The possibilities are endless. Eventually bank teller and pharmacy windows will be looped, with your help. Macatawa Bank (Railside location) has looped a teller location and their customer service desk. This makes banking much easier, no guessing what the teller said.

Our crews are courteous, well trained, and can usually be in and out in only one day. Loop systems are generally easy to use and require little training. We make certain that the wire is neatly tucked away and out of sight.

Our goal is to become a model region for the rest of the nation. It seems that the West Michigan area is taking that extra step for the hard of hearing and paving the way for America to follow in its tracks.
